Ikea In Swedish Teaches You To Correctly Pronounce Its Products

Ikea In Swedish Teaches You To Correctly Pronounce Its Products

Presumably to preserve its heritage, Ikea uses traditional Swedish names for all of its products, even in its hundreds and hundreds of stores outside the country. So those of us who grew up with English as our mother tongue are left scratching our heads as we wander through an Ikea showroom, afraid to take a stab at pronouncing a particular product lest we sound like fools. But not any longer.

(AP) ? At least three tornadoes touched down in Oklahoma, including one in Tulsa, and two more hit Arkansas on Thursday as a powerful storm system moved through the middle of the country. At least nine people were injured.

The National Weather Service confirmed at least one tornado touched down Thursday night in the Tulsa suburb of Broken Arrow. However, the tornado did not appear to be a strong twister like the deadly one in suburban Oklahoma City last week.

Meteorologist Pete Snyder with the weather service's Tulsa office said it appeared the roofs of some buildings were damaged, and police told the Tulsa World that they didn't have any reports of buildings being destroyed.

Earlier in the day, tornadoes touched down in Oklahoma and Arkansas, injuring at least nine people.

The National Weather Service reported two tornadoes on the ground near Perkins and Ripley in north central Oklahoma and another west of Oden, Ark.

Thursday's tornadoes all appeared to be much less dangerous than the top-of-the-scale EF5 storm that struck Moore, Okla., on May 20 and killed 24 along its 17-mile path. The U.S. averages more than 1,200 tornadoes a year, but top-of-the-scale storms like the one in Moore ? with winds over 200 mph ? happen only about once per year. The tornado last week was the nation's first EF5 since 2011.

All nine of the injured Thursday were in Arkansas; two of the injuries were attributed to a lightning strike in Rogers. Lightning was also believed to have started a fire that destroyed two floors of a condominium building in northwestern Indiana.

Some trees, homes and power lines were damaged in Arkansas, and the National Weather Service confirmed that tornadoes touched down in Montgomery County and in Clark County. Emergency Management spokesman Tommy Jackson said first responders had trouble reaching a destroyed home where one person was hurt because a number of trees were blocking the road.

In Oklahoma, Perkins Emergency Management Director Travis Majors said there were no injuries or damage there. Ripley, about 10 miles east of Perkins, did not seem to have significant damage. The Payne County emergency management director did not immediately return a phone call seeking comment.

Storms also caused problems in the western Iowa town of Onawa, damaging buildings, breaking windows, tearing awnings and blowing down trees and a stoplight. National Weather Service meteorologist Dave Fobert told the Sioux City Journal that the damage apparently was caused by a thunderstorm, not a tornado.

Some strong winds blew through Moore, in suburban Oklahoma City, on Thursday, but the weather didn't cause significant problems for crews cleaning up from last week's tornado.

Organizers pushed back Thursday's start of the Wakarusa Music Festival north of Ozark, Ark., as threatening weather approached. After a series of storms moved through the area, Franklin County Emergency Manager Fred Mullen said no flooding was reported at the site, located along Arkansas' Pig Trail scenic highway.

In addition to tornadoes, the storms were bringing rain and hail. Flooding was also a concern in parts of Missouri, Iowa and Illinois through Sunday.

This spring's tornado season got a late start, with unusually cool weather keeping funnel clouds at bay until mid-May. The season usually starts in March and then ramps up for the next couple of months.

Of the 60 EF5 tornadoes since 1950, Oklahoma and Alabama have been struck the most, seven times each. More than half of these top-of-the-scale twisters have occurred in just five states: Alabama, Iowa, Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas.

Tesla promises to add charging stations

(AP) ? Electric car maker Tesla Motors Inc. promises to boost the number of fast-charging stations in the U.S. and Canada to make cross-country travel by electric car possible in the next year.

The company said Thursday that by the end of next month, it will triple the number of charging stations it runs from the current eight, and the number will go to around 100 in the coming year, putting stations within reach of almost the entire populations of both countries.

The pace of construction is about twice as fast as the company had previously announced.

The expanded "supercharger" network will allow owners of Tesla's $70,000 Model S sedans to travel from Los Angeles to New York, probably by the coming winter, as well as make other long-distance trips. The Model S can travel about 200 miles, or for about three hours, when fully charged. With the network, it can be recharged to 50 percent of its battery capacity in 20 to 30 minutes, allowing drivers to make quick stops before driving on.

The supercharging stations are about 10 times as faster than most public charging stations, Tesla said on its website.

Currently Tesla has eight supercharger stations in California and on the East Coast. It has plans to add four stations in California this summer. Stations also will be added during the summer so drivers can go from Vancouver, British Columbia, to Seattle and Portland; and from Austin, Texas, to Dallas. They also will come on-line quickly in Illinois and Colorado.

In addition, the company intends to add four stations this summer in the densely populated Eastern Seaboard, where it currently has two.

Elon Musk, who leads the company, said Thursday that the stations will always be free for owners of the large-battery version of the Model S. Owners of the brand's smaller-battery version will have to pay for the option of using the stations.

Musk said most of Tesla's customers don't know about the supercharger stations, and they won't have much of an impact on the company's current sales rate of around 20,000 per year. But they are necessary to appeal to a wider group of more mainstream customers who want to travel between states.

"They want to know that they have that ability to do so, and on a moment's notice, to go wherever they want," Musk said. "I think it's really important for accessing a broader audience."

Tesla said by fall, it should have charging stations in most metro areas, with coast-to-coast travel available during the winter along Interstate 80. By 2014, the company expects to have charging stations within reach of 80 percent of people in the U.S. and Canada, and 98 percent by 2015, it said in the statement.

Tesla said new technology is being tested now that will allow its cars to be fully recharged in about 20 minutes. The technology will be available at stations this summer, the company said.

Self-Esteem | One-Eighty

Self-Esteem picture

Something everyone has struggled with at some point in their lives. But what actually is self-esteem and how does it affect you?

Broken down, the word ?esteem? refers to something or someone that is important, special or has a certain value. For example, if you really admire your friend?s brother because he volunteers at the local hospital, it means you hold him in high esteem. And ?self? simply refers to yourself as the subject. The dictionary defines it as ?a feeling or pride in yourself.? You can?t touch it, smell it, see, taste or hear it and yet it can have a huge impact on how you feel.

Here at One-Eighty, we focus on building up the self-esteem of the young people we work with in addition to maintaining positive self-esteem within our own team. Why? Because it?s important to know who you are, what you are and are not so good at, and the different aspects you can improve on. It?s not about being perfect, because nobody is. Nor is it about comparing yourself to others, but it?s about being confident in who you are and striving to like yourself for that reason. A positive mind-set equals a positive outset. Of course you need to be realistic in your achievements and learn that failure isn?t always a negative thing ? you can learn from mistakes which builds upon your character.

Having high levels of self-esteem enables you to respect yourself and equally gain respect from adults and peers. How do we get this? Well, it begins from childhood where as a baby you are praised for your achievements through verbal encouragement, body language and facial expressions. As you grow older, these become more conscious to you and you are able to understand the praise given to you and therefore channel it towards something. This may be when you?ve completed a piece of work, you?re praised for your efforts which in turn gives you a sense of pride in yourself.

In order to maintain or boost self-esteem it is important to try out the following:

- Make a list of things you are good at.

- Accept compliments given to you by saying ?thank you? and not dismissing them.

- Respect who you are and remember there are some things you cannot change.

- Get involved in a hobby that you enjoy.

- Spend time with people who encourage you and you have fun in their company.

- If you?re a parent or teacher, make a rewards chart with your child to visually praise them for their achievements.

Part of growing up is about learning to accept who you are, focus on the positives and learn from the negatives. Everyone has strengths and weaknesses but it?s about how we channel them that?s important. Below is a link to Gok Wan?s documentary on teenage life and the effects of negative self-esteem on their behaviour. Take a look.

'Voice' singer wants to be Bond Girl for Levine

TV

When Adam Levine told Amber Carrington she?d be singing the James Bond theme ?Skyfall? on Monday night?s ?The Voice,? she feared that she was done for.

?When Adam gave me that song I was kind of mad at him,? the Texas-born country artist told TODAY.com, ?because it's Adele. (I was like) 'Do you not want me to succeed at all or something???

Yet she had nothing to worry about. Amber?s performance of the Academy Award-winning title track from Daniel Craig?s latest 007 outing won her unanimous praise from the coaches. She also got to show off a Bond Girl-worthy look, slinking across the stage in a bejeweled black dress. It was no surprise that ?Voice? producers chose Amber to fill the show?s coveted closing spot.

How did Amber turn her initial concerns into such a strong finished product? She credited the ?Voice? choreographers with helping her get into character. ?They're like 'Listen, you have to get in the (right) mode (for the song), like a James Bond girl. We need to give you a name, like an alter-ego,?? she recalled.

?They were like, 'Your new name is Diamond,? and I was like, 'I can own this.' When I went up there (Monday night), I was Diamond.?

The name choice ended up being unintentionally amusing, as four of Amber?s fellow artists -- including her teammates Sarah Simmons and Judith Hill -- performed Rihanna?s ?Diamonds? earlier in the evening. That led to some playful confusion.

?Everybody kept talking about ?Diamonds,?? Amber quipped, ?and I was like, ?What? Are you talking about me??"

Amber?s performance marked the first time a ?Voice? artist has performed a song written specifically for a feature film. The fact that she did well by one of the best-loved Bond themes is even more impressive considering that she wasn't even a fan of the film franchise.

?I haven't seen the movie. I'm aware of Adele's version of the song because I've heard it, but I haven't seen any James Bond movie in my life,? she admitted. ?But I'll go watch them now.?

She could even consider it research. During last week?s show, Amber?s coach confessed that he?s always wanted to be a secret agent. So would she be open to being Adam Levine?s Bond Girl?

?I would love that!? she enthused.

Analog Camera review: Realmac filters the fun back into iPhone photography

Analog Camera is a new iPhone photography app by Realmac Software, the makers of Clear, that makes it incredibly fast -- and fun -- to take, process, and share photos. It includes the ability to separate focus and exposure, 8 filters, and an incredible design.

What I love about Analog Camera is how amazingly simple it is. After you take a photo or choose one from your Camera Roll or Photo Stream, previews of the 8 different available filters are displayed in a 3x3 grid (with original in the center), and 5 buttons below: save to Camera Roll, Email, Open In, Facebook, and Twitter.

Tapping a preview thumbnail will pop it open larger (almost full screen) and holding your finger down on one will make it medium sized with the ability to drag around the thumbnails to see them enlarge as you pass them by. A big swipe down will bring you back to your stored photos and camera. Every gesture you do emits a subtle sound that makes the animations even more fun.

When taking a photo with Analog Camera, you can choose between three different shooting modes. A two-finger tap opens separate focus and exposure controls, a single-tap for combined focus and exposure, and a double-tap brings you back to full auto.

The good

  • Three camera modes to set up the perfect shot, including Manual Focus & Exposure
  • 8 filters
  • Black and white filter is really good
  • Beautifully minimalist, no-fuss no-clutter design
  • Horizon line to help you take level photos
  • Share with Twitter, Facebook, Mail or "Open In" another photo app
  • Access photos from your Camera Roll and Photo Stream

The bad

  • Square crop only
  • Wish I could swipe through big previews of the filters. My hand naturally tries to.
  • Can't access photo albums, only Photo Stream and Camera Roll

The bottom line

I am loving the simplicity, elegant design, and speed of Analog Camera. The filters are great, especially black and white, separating exposure and focus in shooting mode is fantastic, and sharing photos is incredibly fast. My biggest complaint is that if you take a photo with Analog Camera, it is automatically cropped as a square. It's bad enough to only be able to apply a filter to a square photo, but to also force photos to be taken as a square is maddening. I will use Analog Camera to apply filters, but I will not be using it to take photos; I'm not willing to delete pixels before they were even created.

This Color-Changing LED Chameleon Scarf Perfectly Matches Any Outfit

Why spend hours digging through your closet trying to color-match the perfect outfit when with a little technology your clothing can match itself automatically?

If you're not afraid of tackling a little electronics, including wiring and programming (plus a little sewing) you can turn a ruffled scarf into a glowing accent piece that's always the perfect color thanks to a built-in optical sensor. The heart of the hack is a $25 FLORA wearable electronics board and the $10 sensor, but when you crunch the numbers it's still a lot cheaper than buying a separate scarf for every garment in your closet.

Earth, as seen by Raspberry Pi camera attached to weather balloon

Raspberry Pi takes a trip through the sky, snaps a few photos along the way

The Raspberry Pi camera has been out for less than two weeks, and it's already skirted the final frontier. Armchair astronaut Dave Akerman strapped the $25 shooter to the equally inexpensive Raspberry Pi, put it inside a protective case shaped like the berry that inspired the product's name, and then attached it to a weather balloon. Three hours and quite a few vertical miles later, his experiment was recovered by a stranger not too far from the launch site, who called the phone number written on the side of the Linux powered microcomputer. The resulting photos are beautiful (see more at the source link), and required no help whatsoever from NASA.

Utah sisters say Mormon relative is wrongly jailed in Mexico

SALT LAKE CITY, (ABC 4 Utah) ? Two Utah women are scared for their sister-in-law who they said was falsely accused and detained in Mexico after police reportedly found drugs strapped to the bottom of the woman's bus seat.

Yanira Maldonado, a Mormon mother of seven, was with her husband Gary Maldonado in Mexico on May 22. The couple was returning to Arizona after attending a relative?s funeral.

Mexican authorities stopped and searched the bus Gary and Yanira were on. Police detained Yanira after two blocks of marijuana were reportedly found her under her bus seat.

Gary and Yanira were the only two Americans on the bus.

Becky Maldonado and Amy Rayner from Utah desperately want to see their sister-in-law Yanira return home to Arizona.

?She doesn?t do drugs,? Becky Maldonado said. ?She?s never dealt with drugs so we?re wondering how this happened to her.?

After a failed attempt of $5,000 was refused by a Mexican judge, Yanira remained jailed Monday with little hope of being set free. Gary offered the money on advice from his attorney who informed him the law works differently in Mexico.

?We?re all worried about Yanira being in jail and what?s she?s going through,? Amy Rayner said. ?I know she?s scared to death.?

Gary and Yanira?s daughter only had 10 minutes to see her in jail on Saturday. It was the one year anniversary of their wedding.

?If she gets stuck in there for three or four months we don?t know what we?re going to do,? Rayner said. ?Her kids need her.?

The women have turned to Facebook to spread Yanira and Gary?s story. Relative Brian Neerings created a Facebook page called "Falsely Accused?and Detained in Mexico." The page is quickly gaining popularity.

?We just hope that everything will work out and Yanira will come home safely,? Maldonado said.

Yanira is scheduled to go before a judge Tuesday in Mexico. The judge could decide to free Yanira or keep her jailed until a trial is held later this year.

Yanira is reportedly getting help from Arizona officials and her bishop.

The family is asking for anyone who has gone through a similar experience to contact them through their Facebook page.

APNewsBreak: Temp bridges planned for fallen I-5

SEATTLE (AP) ? Plans are underway to construct a pair of temporary steel bridges across the Skagit River in northern Washington state where a highway span collapsed into the water this past week.

The Associated Press has learned from an official who spoke on the condition of anonymity ahead of a formal announcement that the bridges will go up next to the original span and will allow limited travel over Interstate 5.

Planners hope to have the temporary structures in place within three weeks. Repair work would then begin on the damaged bridge, with a goal of finishing that work by fall.

The federal government is expected to cover 90 percent of the cost of the temporary bridge and the replacement.

On Thursday, a semi-truck carrying an oversize load clipped a steel truss, starting the collapse of the span and sending cars and people into the cold river waters, authorities said. The three people in the cars survived with non-life threatening injuries.

But the collapse cut access to one the most important highways in Washington state for trade, commuters and travelers.

Meanwhile on Saturday, barges arrived at the river with equipment ready to remove the mangled steel, pavement and cars in the water.

National Transportation Safety Board Chairwoman Debbie Hersman on Sunday said the bridge had withstood other over height collisions with vehicles in the past, with the most recent reported collision happening last October. She said evidence of other collisions can be seen in the spans still standing over the water.

Hersman also said a second truck with a similar cargo was traveling behind the truck involved in the collision. She said investigators are inspecting that cargo and truck to take measurements. The truck involved in the collision has also been moved off the highway on-ramp where it has been parked since Thursday.

Hersman also said investigators have traveled to Alberta, Canada to inspect the trucking company's records.

The NTSB head also said that if the truck had been on the left lane of the southbound lanes, it likely would have cleared the bridge without a collision, but added that more precise measurements need to be taken. The bridge's height clearance varies across it.

"We know the company was required to establish that they could clear the entire route," Hersman said.

The truck's cargo from Canada was headed to Alaska. Its plan was to load its cargo onto a barge in Vancouver, Wash., about 275 miles south of the border crossing.

Israel's Peres calls for return to peace talks

SOUTHERN SHUNEH, Jordan (AP) ? Israel's president urged Israeli and Palestinian leaders on Sunday to overcome differences and resume peace negotiations, saying the sides could not afford "to lose this opportunity."

President Shimon Peres issued his call ahead of a gathering of Mideast leaders on the sidelines of a World Economic Forum meeting on the shores of the Dead Sea in Jordan. Sunday's meeting was expected to include a rare face-to-face meeting between Israeli and Palestinian leaders, along with the participation of U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, who has devoted much of the past two months to restarting long-stalled peace talks.

"We shouldn't lose the opportunity because it will be replaced by a great disappointment," Peres told reporters in Jordan. "For my experience, I believe it's possible to overcome it. It doesn't require too much time."

Palestinian-Israeli peace talks broke down nearly five years ago, in large part due to disagreements over Israeli settlement construction on occupied territories claimed by the Palestinians. The Palestinians say there is no point in negotiating while Israel continues to build Jewish settlements in the West Bank and east Jerusalem, undermining their quest to set up an independent state. The Palestinians want both areas, captured by Israel in 1967, as parts of a future state.

Kerry, who met with Israeli and Palestinian officials last week during a swing through the region, said both sides must make hard decisions to move toward direct negotiations.

Peres, who won the 1994 Nobel Peace Prize for helping forge an interim deal with the Palestinians, sounded upbeat and determined to help in peacemaking with Palestinians.

"It is time for peace," he said. "I believe this is an important opportunity to (engage), not to waste time, return to negotiations and complete the negotiations with the Palestinians."

He said a peace agreement must be "based on a two state solution: an Israeli state, a Palestinian state living as good neighbors cooperating economically and bringing a message to the young generation."

Traditionally an ardent supporter of peace with the Palestinians, Peres holds a ceremonial role in Israel. But his views are highly respected in Israeli society. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has most decision-making powers, holds more hawkish positions than Peres and has given few signs of how he sees a final peace deal with the Palestinians.

Chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat, asked to comment on Peres' peace, blamed Israel for the stalled negotiations.

"President Peres know very much...that we (the Palestinians) are not the obstacle," he told The Associated Press.

"I hope that President Peres can convince the prime minister of Israel to accept ... the two states, that it is time to make peace and not talk about peace," Erekat added.

While Netanyahu has endorsed the concept of a two-state solution, the Palestinians accuse him of undermining that goal through his action. In particular, they object to continued settlement construction and Netanyahu's refusal to endorse Israel's pre-1967 lines as the basis for a future border.

Israeli media reported that the president discussed with Netanyahu some key issues he is expected to raise at Sunday's forum.

Peres has scheduled meetings with Jordan's King Abdullah II, whose country maintains cordial ties with Israel under a peace treaty signed in 1994, and possibly Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, who is also attending the WEF.

On his fourth visit to the Middle East since taking office in February, Kerry held talks with Netanyahu and Abbas last week. Jordanian officials said privately he was expected to meet Peres and Abbas while in Jordan.

NY plane crash passengers ID'd as patient, wife

EPHRATAH, N.Y. (AP) ? A brain cancer patient and his wife were on board the volunteer medical flight piloted by a Connecticut man that crashed in a wooded area of central New York, authorities said Sunday.

Frank and Evelyn Amerosa of Utica were aboard an Angel Flight on Friday night when the twin-engine aircraft went down in Ephratah, a sleepy town about an hour west of Albany, according to police and family members.

Officials and family said John Campbell, 70, of Stamford, Conn., was flying the couple back from the Boston area, where Frank Amerosa was being treated for brain cancer.

The bodies of Campbell and Evelyn Amerosa have been recovered from the rural crash site. Dozens of searchers, including a helicopter crew, continued searching the woods and water Sunday for Frank Amerosa, 64, who was presumed dead, said Sgt. Brian Van Nostrand of the Fulton County Sheriff's Department.

Frank Amerosa, a retired trucker, had been diagnosed with brain cancer more than a year ago. Evelyn Amerosa, 58, worked at an area nursing home directing residents in activities like bingo and trips ? a job she loved, said her daughter Heather Theobald. She said her mother had been with her step-father for at least 16 years. The couple loved to travel and had recently returned from the Bahamas.

"Very happy, very much love, very optimistic, they did everything for anybody," Theobald told The Associated Press. "They were just very good people. They were loved by a lot of people."

Campbell was volunteer pilot for Angel Flight, a nonprofit group that arranges free air transportation for the sick. Angel Flight Northeast said it has set up free air transportation and medical care for more than 65,000 children and adults on about 60,000 flights covering more than 12 million miles. It was founded in 1996.

"John loved to fly and truly believed in the mission of Angel Flight. He loved volunteering his time and we take some solace in the fact he died doing something he loved while trying to help others," according to a family statement read to The Associated Press by his daughter Kimberly Conti, of Rutherford, N.J.

Rescue workers on Sunday scoured the woods and searched a big, murky pond where the bulk of the aircraft was submerged. Wreckage from the crash was dispersed over a large area, with pieces of the plane found as far as 5 miles away.

Town Supervisor Todd Bradt said more than 100 rescuers searched for Frank Amerosa into Sunday night but did not find him. The search will continue Monday.

National Transportation Safety Board investigators who returned to the crash site Sunday aim to retrieve the bulk of the wreckage from the water over the next few days, said agency spokesman Eric Weiss. They are looking for smartphones, GPS devices, computer tablets or other items that could "give the investigators some electronic evidence of what happened in the last minutes of flight," he said.

The Piper PA 34 had departed from Hanscom Field in Bedford, Mass., and was headed to Rome, N.Y., before it crashed just after 5 p.m. Friday, Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen said. The plane did not issue a distress call before losing radar and radio contact, the NTSB said.

Terence Kindlon, an Albany attorney who is a volunteer pilot for Angel Flight, said he and another lawyer, Dale Thuillez, had flown the couple to Boston on Friday morning in Thuillez's plane. He quickly found out he had something in common with Frank Amerosa.

"We were both former Marines and had been in Vietnam pretty close together in time," Kindlon said. "We hit it right off. He was a nice guy."

The two lawyers flew back to Albany in Thuillez's plane after dropping off the couple in Boston.

While the cause of the crash remains under investigation, Kindlon stressed that "the standards for being an Angel Flight pilot are rigorous."

Authorities had initially said the bodies of two passengers were found after the aircraft went down Friday night. But Van Nostrand corrected that report Sunday, saying the bodies of the Evelyn Amerosa and Campbell had been found.

Witnesses described the destruction that started in the air above Ephratah.

Joan Dudley, owner of Granny's Ice Cream Shanty, which is less than a mile from the crash site, said she and her employees saw the plane flip, then fall apart Friday night.

"Parts and pieces of it were flying through the sky, and a body fell out," Dudley said.

They called 911 as they parked their car and ran to the crash site in the rain to see if they could rescue anyone.

"Airplane parts were all over the place," she said. "They were picking them up all over."

Ephratah resident Roger Berry, 75, said he was outside chopping wood when the plane crashed.

"When I heard it, I knew something was wrong," Berry said.

Berry said he heard a bang, then saw pieces of the plane fall from the sky. The motor fell 50 feet from his neighbor's bedroom, where she was sleeping, Berry said.

Renan Barao, John Cholish and Cain Velasquez: See where they fell on Cagewriter?s Hot or Not list

As another week of MMA comes to a close, let's take a look at what was hot and what was not so hot.

Hot -- Bryan Pedersen: Many legislators have talked about the economic benefits of MMA when the sport is legalized. Few have gone the extra mile to find out what it feels like to be in a cage to fight. Pedersen will do that in Cheyenne, Wyo., this weekend. No matter the result, it's admirable that he has even gone the distance to train and join the first fights to take place in Wyoming's capitol.

Not -- Renan Barao: The interim bantamweight men's champ was injured and had to pull out of his main event bout with Eddie Wineland at UFC 161. Dan Henderson and Rashad Evans' fight is now the main event, and Roy Nelson vs. Stipe Miocic was added.

Hot -- John Cholish: After losing to Gleison Tibau at UFC on FX 8, Cholish decided to hang up his fighting gloves. Before he left, he decided to give his fight purse to Oklahoma tornado survivors.

Kudos to Cholish.

Not -- Brett Atchley: The manager who specializes in female fighters has been accused of bad behavior by several fighters separately. His alleged improprieties include accosting fighters, telling them he would "blackball them" from Invicta though president Shannon Knapp has denied anyone has the power to do this, and sharing the confidential details of a client's contract. His response?

"It's really easy for women to play the victim, especially when they make their mind up that they're going to do it. Because everyone will believe them," Atchley said to MMA Junkie.

Stereotyping women is not a smart thing to do, particularly by someone who makes his living off of them.

Still taking temperature -- Cain Velasquez: He lost the UFC heavyweight championship belt once, and managed to get it back. Will he defend it on Saturday night against Antonio Silva at UFC 160?

Thanks for reading Cagewriter this week. Check us out on Twitter and Facebook for bonus UFC 160 coverage.

Stone Temple Pilots sue ex-frontman Scott Weiland

LOS ANGELES (AP) ? The Stone Temple Pilots accuse former frontman Scott Weiland of misusing the band's name to further his solo career and want a judge to strip the rocker of his ability to use the group's name or songs.

A lawsuit filed Friday in Los Angeles accuses Weiland of being chronically late to concerts while the group was together and having his lawyer attempt to interfere with the airplay of the group's new single "Out of Time."

Weiland and Stone Temple Pilots parted ways in February, and the 45-year-old singer said at the time that he learned of his ouster from a statement released to the media.

The lawsuit sheds light on the band's breakup, accusing Weiland of interacting with band mates only through lawyers or managers and showing up late to the group's 2012 shows. It cites Weiland's addiction struggles and poor performances as detriments to the band's earning potential.

"The band endured much strife and lost significant opportunities because of Weiland," the suit states.

In a message posted to his website Friday, Weiland said his former band mates shouldn't call themselves Stone Temple Pilots either.

"First of all they don't have the legal right to call themselves STP because I'm still a member of the band," he said. "And more importantly, they don't have the ethical right to call themselves Stone Temple Pilots because it's misleading and dishonest to the millions of fans that have followed us for so many years."

The suit claims the band owns the rights to the name Stone Temple Pilots, and the band's songs, copyrights and trademarks. Weiland has used many of the band's hits in his solo shows, the lawsuit states. The band wants a judge to block him from even calling himself a former member of the band.

The band has been reconstituted with Chester Bennington of Linkin Park taking the frontman role.

Although he did not mention the lawsuit, Weiland disputed that he is using the band's name to promote his new shows.

"When I tour on my own, it's never as Stone Temple Pilots. It's as Scott Weiland," he wrote. "The fans deserve to know what they're getting."

The lawsuit claims that Weiland's lawyer called the head of programming at KROQ, a Los Angeles modern rock station, and said if the station played "Out of Time" it would be infringing on Weiland's rights.

"Enough is enough," the band's lawsuit states. "Without relief from the court, Weiland will continue violating STP's rights, misappropriating STP assets and interfering with the band's livelihood."

The lawsuit states the band entered into agreements in 1996 and 2010 that state that no former members can use the Stone Temple Pilots name.

The band's hits include "Vasoline," ''Interstate Love Song" and "Plush," which won a Grammy in 1993 for best hard rock performance with vocal.

Weiland alluded to lawyers getting involved when the band's statement about his departure was released.

Phone messages left for Weiland's manager Andrea Pett-Joseph and lawyer Gary Stiffelman were not immediately returned Friday.

(AP) ? Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel told cadets at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point on Saturday that they must stamp out the scourge of sexual assault in the military.

A day after President Barack Obama delivered a similar edict to U.S. Naval Academy graduates, Hagel's message comes amid a series of widespread incidents of sexual misconduct across the armed services in recent months and a new report showing that the problem is growing. The challenge is particularly poignant for West Point, since an Army sergeant was charged earlier in the week with secretly photographing and videotaping at least a dozen women at the upper New York state academy, including in a bathroom.

"Sexual harassment and sexual assault in the military are a profound betrayal ? a profound betrayal ? of sacred oaths and sacred trusts," Hagel told 1,007 graduating cadets during a cold, rainy outdoor ceremony. "This scourge must be stamped out. We are all accountable and responsible for ensuring that this happens. We cannot fail the Army or America. We cannot fail each other and we cannot fail the men and women that we lead."

Hagel, who served in the Army in Vietnam, took the opportunity to reflect on his own time in uniform and the lessons that he said must resonate as the soldiers take on the job of helping to transform the military. It was his first graduation address as defense chief.

The new second lieutenants, he said, must be the generation of leaders who will stop the debilitating and insidious threats of suicide, sexual assault and drug and alcohol abuse that are hurting the all-volunteer force.

Wounded twice during his roughly one year at war, Hagel has two Purple Hearts and is the first man to become secretary of defense after serving only in the enlisted corps. Reflecting on his military service, Hagel said his time in the Army shaped him forever.

"In Vietnam, I learned that combat is a furnace that can consume you, or it can forge you into something better and stronger than you were before," said Hagel, who took over the job as Pentagon chief at the end of February.

He also told the graduates that they must begin to build the future Army as the service recovers from the strains of more than a decade of war in Iraq and Afghanistan. Future conflicts, he said, will take on new and unfamiliar forms, and the military must be ready to face them even as budget cuts force the service to curtail training and trim the number of soldiers from a wartime high of about 570,000 to 490,000.

But he said that readiness will be strained by health and social problems.

Pentagon leaders have been struggling to deal with what they have come to call an epidemic of sexual assaults in the military. A Pentagon report released this month estimated that as many as 26,000 military service members may have been sexually assaulted last year and that thousands of victims are unwilling to come forward despite new oversight and assistance programs. The estimate was based largely on anonymous surveys.

According to the report, the number of sexual assaults actually reported by military service members rose 6 percent to 3,374 in 2012. And nearly 800 of those simply sought help but declined to file complaints against their attackers.

Spurred on by furious Congress members, the Defense Department has ordered the services to come up with ways to curb the problem and better help the victims.

In the latest case, Sgt. 1st Class Michael McClendon is facing charges of dereliction of duty, mistreatment, entering a women's bathroom without notice, and taking and possessing inappropriate photos and videos of at least a dozen women who were naked or in various states of undress.

The women have been notified by the Army about the matter.

Despite the news this week, female cadets interviewed after the ceremony said they felt secure during their four years at the academy on the Hudson River.

"We've had issues here and there that the press really highlights. But overall I know that my classmates, my friends, we all feel very safe and we do think that was the exception," said Abigail Osman, of Hershey Pa.

Jordan Reilly, who lives near Memphis, Tenn., said the academy is doing a good job addressing sexual harassment, especially over the last year.

"The friends that I've made here, I know that they will protect me. A lot of them see themselves as my older brothers and so I feel safe," Reilly said.

Still, some cadets and parents said they were glad Hagel bought up sexual misconduct in his speech. Stacy Davis, of Madison, Wis., said that as a mother with one daughter in the Marines and another who graduated West Point on Saturday, she feels it's important to talk about sexual harassment openly.

"That's the main thing, everyone has to be talking about it," Davis said.

McClendon was charged May 14 with violating four articles of the Uniform Code of Military Justice, but some of the allegations date back to 2009. He has been transferred to Fort Drum. It isn't immediately clear if he has a lawyer.

Disney World and Disneyland: Weird Facts for Families - iVillage

If you've been to Disney World or Disneyland, you know that the parks are impeccably planned and immaculately manicured. But pull back the curtain on the two happiest places on Earth, and a secret life emerges, full of fascinating spots rarely seen by the average visitor, backdoor goings-on the Disney brass don't want you to know, and cool insider facts that make even your zillionth visit more interesting. Here, we gather the top weird things you need to know about the Disney parks.

There's always a trash can nearby:
The plans for Walt Disney World (WDW) plans call for no spot in the park being farther than 30 steps from a garbage receptacle, according to Disneytrivia.net. Easy access helps keep the park neat, as does its refusal to sell gum.

Look closely -- the flags are fake:
In her book, The Hidden Magic of Walt Disney World, author Susan Veness reveals via Business Insider that in order to avoid the hassle of raising and lowering many flags each day, all but one of the flags at Disney World are replicas. The only real deal is the one in the center courtyard.

"It's a Small World" music never stops: And you think it's stuck in your head after one ride? Think of the poor souls who clean the ride in the Orlando Park night after night. According to Oddball Daily, it's too much trouble to shut off and reboot the sound system, so the park just leaves the cloying music playing on loop 24-7.

You can wake up Tinkerbell: There are some amazing once-in-a-lifetime experiences for kids if you know about them. According to Business Insider, the first person inside Tinkerbell's shop at WDW each morning is allowed to rouse the fairy from sleep.

There's a secret underground lair: Where do cast members go to de-Mickey -- and why is trash largely unseen at a place that hosts millions of visitors a year? The secret at Disney World is a nine-acre network of underground tunnels called utilidors, according to Business Insider, which house break rooms, garbage chutes and more.

There are Mickeys hidden everywhere: If you look hard enough, you'll see the familiar Mickey silhouette in all sorts of unexpected places around all the Disney parks, from lace fabric to hub caps to imprints in the cement, according to HomeAway. No one's sure exactly how many secret Mickeys there are, but it's fun to see how many your kids can find.

There's a secret, members-only speakeasy: Heard of Club 33? Behind a door marked 33 Royal Street at Disneyland, there's apparently a secret members-only dinner club with a years-long waiting list and a hefty initiation fee, according to Oddball Daily. Former guests have included presidents, celebs and VIPs, who enjoy the only place in the park where you can score a cocktail.

The park has a natural solution to pest control: After closing each day at Disneyland, 200 feral cats are reportedly let loose to help get rid of rodents, according to HomeAway. During the day, they are kept hidden in special cat houses.

There's a secret basketball court: Few people get a chance to see it, but hidden insider the Matterhorn in Disneyland is a spot to shoot hoops. According to Mental Floss, when the ride was completed, the top third of the mountain was unused space. Disney employees voted to put in a mini basketball court.

Cinderella's castle is smaller than it appears: To make the iconic castle which anchors Disney World appear larger than life, the architects used some perspective tricks, according to Business Insider. The windows at the top are smaller, and the streets leading to it angled, to make the castle look like it's off in the far distance.

Autistic People Find Job Niche in Tech

Phillip Griffin graduated high school with honors in 2009, but despite his good grades and interest in math and science, finding a job proved difficult.

That's because Griffin, 22, has autism spectrum disorder, a developmental disorder marked by difficulties with social interaction and communication ? making job interviews a nightmare.

"I got a little frustrated," he told ABCNews.com, adding that he's had part-time jobs that included working as a custodian for a local church near his home in Brookfield, Ill.

RELATED: Tech Giant Sees 'Competitive Advantage' in Autistic Workforce

Although no two people with autism are exactly alike, many have trouble catching social cues, elaborating on answers to interview questions and making eye contact, said Peter Bell, executive vice president for programs and services at Autism Speaks.

Study Reveals 1 in 50 Schoolchildren Have Autism Watch Video Determined Beauty Queen Doesn't Let Autism Get in Her Way Watch Video

"They're sometimes not well understood," said Bell, the father of a 20-year-old son who has autism. "If an interview candidate is not looking you in the eye, I might -- if I didn't know the person had autism ? say, 'Wow. This person is aloof' or 'They aren't necessarily interested in the job.'"

He said standard company interview practices focus on "soft skills," but the most important thing is the hard skill: Can the candidate actually do the job?

But Griffin proved that he could and last Thursday landed a job in information technology at AutonomyWorks, a technology company that employs only autistic people because it values their ability to spot patterns and their preference for repetitive tasks. He had to prove that he could build test websites during a two-week tryout.

And he "mastered" it, said managing director of AutonomyWorks Julie Calmes.

When asked what he enjoys about his new job, Griffin said, "Well, it involves computers. I love the step-by -step process. I like the office environment."

But AutonomyWorks isn't the only group seeking autistic employees to work in jobs in software testing, data entry and programming.

Since it's estimated that 1 percent of the world population is autistic, German software giant SAP announced this week that it aims to hire enough autistic people to make up 1 percent of its 65,000 work force.

"It really is a new step," Bell said. "As an autism dad, this makes me really excited and optimistic that corporate America is going to recognize the value of people with autism, and that more and more opportunities will become available."

Britain braces for possible copycat attacks

In this undated image released Thursday May 23, 2013, by the British Ministry of Defence, showing Lee Rigby known as ?Riggers? to his friends, who is identified by the MOD as the serving member of the armed forces who was attacked and killed by two men in the Woolwich area of London on Wednesday. The Ministry web site included the statement "It is with great sadness that the Ministry of Defence must announce that the soldier killed in yesterday's incident in Woolwich, South East London, is believed to be Drummer Lee Rigby of 2nd Battalion The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers." (AP Photo / MOD)

(AP) ? Britain is bracing for clashes with right-wing activists and possible copycat terror attacks by Islamic extremists after the savage slaying of a young soldier, whose grieving family spoke Friday of their loss.

London police said more than 1,000 officers will be sent to potential trouble spots with armed response units. Most British police officers don't carry weapons.

Wednesday's attack was captured on video by passersby and made for gruesome viewing ? one man is seen with his hands stained red with blood and holding two butcher's knives as he angrily complained about the British government and troops in foreign lands. A lifeless body is seen on the street behind him.

Terror analysts say the attackers wanted the publicity to inspire copycat attacks, and that they are already seeing an increase in chatter on extremist sites calling for such attacks.

"We can see the tempo being raised," said Maajid Nawaz, a former jihadist who is now with the London-based anti-extremist Quilliam Foundation.

"One of the reasons why these guys acted in this theatrical way was because of the propaganda effect so others would be inspired to do the same thing. The nature of these attacks are that they are so easy to do, and we have definitely seen an increase in chatter calling for such things since the attack."

A British government official who spoke on condition of anonymity because he wasn't authorized to speak about the ongoing investigation, confirmed the increase in chatter since Wednesday's attack but said no specific or credible plots had been detected at this point.

Britain's terror threat level has remained unchanged at "substantial" ? the middle of five possible rankings ? since the slaying of 25-year-old Drummer Lee Rigby.

Police said Friday that an autopsy on Rigby's remains had been conducted but that the cause of death "has not been confirmed." Police said an inquest will be held.

His anguished widow, Rebecca Rigby, spoke of her loss Friday at a news conference at his unit's headquarters.

"I love Lee and always will," she said, sobbing. "I am proud to be his wife and he was due to come up this weekend so we could continue our future together as a family."

She said she never expected her husband to be in danger while in Britain: "You don't expect it to happen when he's in the UK. You think they're safe." His stepfather, Ian Rigby, read a statement on the family's behalf, including the final text the soldier had sent to his mother, who was too upset to speak.

"The last text he sent to his mum read, 'Goodnight mum, I hope you had a fantastic day today because you are the most fantastic and one in a million mum that anyone could ever wish for. Thank you for supporting me all these years, you're not just my mum, you're my best friend. So goodnight, love you loads," Ian Rigby said.

Right-wing extremists, meanwhile, said they would be holding demonstrations over the coming weeks. Several dozen gathered the night of the slaying to protest.

There were some signs of a backlash against Muslims, including two incidents late Thursday night. In Lincolnshire, police said 11 teenagers were arrested after they attacked a local mosque following a party. In the other attack, a burning bottle was thrown at a mosque in Bletchley while people inside were praying, Thames Valley Police said. There was minor damage to the mosque, but no injuries were reported.

Police on Friday released without charge a 29-year-old woman who had been arrested as part of the murder inquiry, and also released a 31-year-old woman who had been arrested late Thursday. A 29-year-old man arrested Thursday remains in custody.

The two main suspects, who were shot after rushing police who arrived on the murder scene, are receiving hospital treatment for their wounds.

Britain's domestic spy agency of MI5 has long warned of the difficulties in predicting self-starter attacks, or attacks that are inspired ? not necessarily organized ? by larger groups.

With the weakening of al-Qaida's leadership structure in Afghanistan and Pakistan, there has been an increase in lone-wolf attacks, which are low-tech and relatively easy to pull off.

Both suspects in the soldier's killing were on the agency's radar for as long as six years. Video footage showed one of the men at a 2007 rally with Anjem Choudary, the former leader of the banned extremist group al-Muhajiroun.

But the men weren't necessarily the focus of any specific investigation, according to the British official who spoke on condition of anonymity. There has to be compelling intelligence to suggest a real threat before suspects are put under surveillance.

"It is a democratic right to protest in this country," the British official said. "Not everyone who shows up at a demonstration, even though they may say or believe in things that we don't, will turn to violence."
