A C.A.R.E. clinic will bring free medical care to Dallas Sept. 29 (C.A.R.E.)

Texas has the unenviable distinction of being the state with the highest rate of people lacking health uninsured ?in the country,?with about 26?percent of residents in general and 22 percent of children without coverage.

In recognition of that, the National Association of Free and Charitable Clinics, based in Alexandria, Va., is bringing the free C.A.R.E. (Communities Are Responding Everyday) to Dallas for the first time Sept. 29 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Dallas Convention Center.

The clinic is offered in conjunction with the?Lone Star Association of Charitable Clinics (LSACC) and?the North Texas Association of Charitable Clinics (NTACC).?Both medical and nonmedical volunteers are needed from 8 a.m. until 8?p.m. on the day of the clinic, ?as well as for setup the afternoon of Sept. 27 and all day Sept. 28.

The clinic is looking for volunteers who are doctors of medicine, doctors of osteopathy,?nurse practitioners, physician?s assistants, registered nurses, licensed?vocational nurses, emergency medical technicians, medical administrators,?licensed clinical social workers and more. They are also looking for non-medical volunteers to help with documentation, logistical support, patient intake and translation, as well as to be patient greeters and escorts.

C.A.R.E Clinic held its first free clinic in 2009 in Houston. After serving about 15,000 uninsured patients over the last three years in Houston;?New Orleans (three times); Little Rock; Kansas City; Hartford; Atlanta;?Washington, D.C.; Charlotte; and Tacoma, Wash., this 12th C.A.R.E. will mark the first time they are returning to Texas.
